My name is Sarah Mandell and I founded Flourish in Los Angeles in 2003. After serving the Telluride area for the past seven years, I’m thrilled to launch Flourish here in Aspen, Snowmass, and the Roaring Fork Valley area. I have served clients from all over the country as well as international visitors. I cater to those who simply love good food and who enjoy sharing the experience with friends and family. At Flourish, it’s also about impeccable and friendly service. I like to ensure that my clients can relax and enjoy time together around the table.
I became a personal chef to share my passion for and my knowledge of whole foods cuisine and seasonal locally-grown ingredients. Due to my varied studies including whole foods cuisine, vegan, and vegetarian style cooking, I became known for my ability to cater to those needing gluten free, dairy free and health conscious menu preparation. I enjoy the challenge of creating gourmet menus that accommodate any special requests.
I’m frequently asked what my signature dishes are. My friends and clients will tell you that my salads are unbeatable. I’m also known for my homemade pizzas, Mediterranean cuisine, Colorado lamb marinated and grilled, fresh seafood dishes, and a perfectly-cooked beef tenderloin with a brandied mushroom ragout. For dessert, crepes Suzette or coconut milk chocolate pudding (to name a few signature dishes). I believe my specialty is to keep it simple, elegant and boldly flavorful.
I’m influenced by having lived in Los Angeles during the peak of California and Pan Asian Cuisine trends. I have traveled extensively in Europe and Latin America and love to incorporate the flavors of ethnic dishes into my repertoire. When I’m in the kitchen, I’m in the zone and I take pride in my personal approach to each menu.
Five things I can’t be without in the kitchen? My Shun chef’s knife, quality sea salt, stone-crushed olive oil, a smile and my passion for food that simply tastes great.
When I’m not in the kitchen, I love to bike ride, hike, cross-country ski and walk with my two dogs, Nikki and Max. I recently spent three weeks bike riding in Italy and came back fully inspired by the food and wine of Tuscany and Umbria.
